Benesch is pleased to announce that Juan Morado, Jr., of counsel in Benesch’s Health Care & Life Sciences practice, has been appointed by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to serve on the Illinois Medical District Commission.
The Illinois Medical District (IMD) includes 560 acres of medical research facilities, labs, a biotech business incubator, two universities, raw development area and more than 40 healthcare related facilities, all serving the most diverse patient population in the United States. The IMD Commission is responsible for overseeing projects and collaboration between the various partner organizations within the district, fostering economic growth by supporting healthcare, research, program, technology commercialization and real estate development initiatives.
The seven member body includes four commissioners appointed by the Governor of Illinois, two by the Mayor of Chicago and one by the President of the Cook County Board.
“I am thrilled and humbled to have been given this opportunity by the Mayor,” said Juan. “Having grown up in the neighborhood surrounding the Medical District, I’ve seen first-hand the transformative effect its development has already had on the city’s standing as a leader in health care delivery and innovation. I look forward to supporting its continued advancement.”
Juan is a health care regulatory and policy attorney who advises hospitals, health systems, physician groups, consulting firms, pharmacies, and other clients, helping them to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and implement industry best practices. He has extensive experience in working with the state and federal agencies and has previously served as General Counsel to the Health Facilities and Services Review Board of the State of Illinois.
