A paralegal in Benesch’s Business Succession Planning & Wealth Management Practice Group, Karen L. Smolen concentrates on estate planning and probate administration.  Karen assists attorneys with the drafting wills, trust agreements, powers of attorney, and health care documents; preparation of probate pleadings and handling estate administration; as well as preparing and filing estate and gift tax returns.

Karen L. Smolen received her B.A. in Legal Studies from Ursuline College and her Associate of Applied Business, Paralegal Studies from Cuyahoga Community College.  During Karen’s career in the legal industry, she earned her court executive and court manager certifications through the National Center for State Courts Institution for Court Management (ICM) and the Supreme Court of Ohio.
