Peter represents commercial contractors and project owners in all facets of a construction project, from procurement through dispute resolution after project completion. His experience and understanding of the construction industry allows him to advise clients--both public and private--through disputes and liability avoidance at every phase of a construction project, from the drafting and negotiation of construction contracts all the way through to post-project issues (including construction defect claims). He takes a practical approach to contract drafting, claims handling, and litigation to achieve a client’s goals at a reasonable cost.
In addition to advising clients on typical challenges that arise on commercial and public construction projects, Peter is particularly adept at steering clients through such potential schedule and cost risks as:
- Change orders and directives,
- Differing site conditions,
- Delay and acceleration claims,
- Project safety concerns,
- Problems with coordination of work,
- Construction defect claims,
- State and federal prevailing wage law,
- Mechanics’ liens,
- Appropriate project delivery methods,
- Payment and delivery performance bond claims,
- Publicly-bid projects.
Peter is active in construction-related organizations, allowing him to stay advised of developments that will impact the industry. He is a member of the Builders Exchange (BX) of Central Ohio, the Associated Builders and Contractors of Central Ohio, the Columbus Bar Association’s Construction Law Committee, and the American Bar Association’s Forum on Construction Law. Understanding the ever-changing developments, legislation, and regulations around the construction industry allows Peter to provide his clients with unique insight and perspective, enabling them to mitigate their risk as they move forward.
