Supporting the Alfred A. Benesch School: A Legacy of Giving Back
At Benesch, our commitment to giving back is reflected through our ongoing support of the Alfred A. Benesch School. Named in honor of our founding partner, Alfred A. Benesch, whose service to the Cleveland Board of Education made a lasting impact, we are proud to continue his legacy by uplifting the community we call home.
Since 2021, we have partnered closely with the Alfred A. Benesch School to address critical needs and empower students facing adversity. Under the leadership of Managing Partner Gregg Eisenberg, our initiatives have flourished, demonstrating our commitment to effecting positive change.
“Our partnership with the school has allowed us to witness firsthand the impact we can make,” says Managing Partner Gregg Eisenberg. “Every interaction with the students and faculty deepens our connection to the cause. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see our efforts translate into real, positive changes for these children.”
History
The Alfred A. Benesch School, formerly known as the Outhwaite School for Boys, has a rich history of educational support and reform. Initially a primarily Jewish school, it was converted in 1926 to a special education institution with the goal of helping students with below-average grades achieve academic success. This initiative was part of a broader effort to provide tailored educational support to students with varying needs.
Alfred A. Benesch, who served on the Cleveland Board of Education from 1925 to 1962, including two terms as President, was honored in the 1960s when the Outhwaite School, from which he graduated in 1891, was named after him. This tribute recognized his substantial contributions to Cleveland’s education system. During his distinguished tenure, Benesch was a passionate advocate for equal access to quality education for all children, regardless of their socioeconomic or ethnic backgrounds, and championed several programs and initiatives to support disadvantaged students.
Today, the school serves Cleveland’s Central neighborhood and provides education from K-8, focusing on academic and personal development skills to prepare students for long-term success.
Our Involvement
Through our collaboration with the school, we strive to bridge gaps and provide vital support to students. Our volunteers generously dedicate their time to ensure each child receives the encouragement and resources needed to thrive both academically and personally.
Our contributions, including donations of backpacks, school supplies, clothing, and snacks, represent just a portion of our support. We also organize field trips and financial sponsorships, continually seeking new opportunities to make a meaningful difference.
Why It Matters
All students deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential. At Benesch, we understand that education is a powerful tool for collapsing social barriers and creating lasting change. By supporting the Alfred A. Benesch School, we help shape a brighter future for our community. We take great pride in enriching the lives of children and being part of a mission that extends beyond ourselves.
