Theyju focuses her practice on IP litigation, focusing mainly on the patent side. She assists throughout the lifecycle of IP litigation and has worked both on the plaintiff side and the defendant’s side. Drawing on experience that bridges science, technology and law, she masters the technical and factual details and assists in resolving complex intellectual property disputes.
Before joining Benesch, Theyju gained valuable experience through summer clerkships and academic projects that exposed her to the demands of litigation and client strategy. She gained legal experience both in law firm settings and through working with public organizations. Theyju was a New York Pro Bono Scholar, dedicating her last semester of law school to providing pro bono services to low-income New Yorkers.
Theyju was also a patent student associate in her law school’s Intellectual Property Clinic, where she translated patentable ideas into patent applications and helped secure patents for inventions in the mechanical, engineering, computer science, physics and consumer product manufacturing sectors. She facilitated client communications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and drafted patent applications, including patent claims and specifications, amendments and continuations. She also drafted responses to restriction requirements, final and non-final office actions, and conducted patentability searches. This experience gave her a solid understanding of how intellectual property rights are created, protected and defended, and an appreciation of the importance of truly knowing a case – every fact, document and angle.
With the ability to converse in a myriad of languages including Tamil, Hindi, Japanese and Korean, Theyju connects well with a diverse clientele. Clients appreciate her exceptional communication skills, efficiency, organization and cultural awareness.
