Benesch is pleased to announce that Ira C. Kaplan has been re-elected as Managing Partner, James M. Hill has been re-elected to Executive Chairman of the firm, and Kevin D. Margolis and Megan L. Mehalko have been re-elected by the firm's partners to the Executive Committee. They will each be serving a three-year term, which began January 1, 2011.
In addition to serving as Managing Partner, Mr. Kaplan is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and has Co-Chaired the firm’s Middle Market and Private Equity Practice Groups and is a member of the firm’s Diversity Initiative Committee. Mr. Kaplan focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions as well as public and private debt and equity financings. Mr. Kaplan represents both publicly and privately held companies at various stages of growth. He has been involved in planning for growth companies, helping to position them for various stages of private financing and anticipated public offerings. Mr. Kaplan also represents private equity, subordinated debt and venture funds as well as portfolio companies of such funds.
In addition to serving as Executive Chairman, Mr. Hill is Chair of the firm's Private Equity Practice Group and serves as a member of the Executive Committee. Mr. Hill focuses his practice on publicly and privately held growth companies in addition to representing mezzanine finance providers and equity participants. He primarily handles mergers and acquisitions, board governance, strategic planning and public and private offerings of equity, and public and private offerings of debt.
Mr. Margolis serves as Chair of the firm's Real Estate & Environmental Practice Group and Co-Chair of the Energy Practice Group. He is also Chair of the firm's Hiring Committee. In his practice, Mr. Margolis primarily represents public and private real estate development entities and other public and private companies on environmental risk, cleanup, regulatory and compliance issues. He also has developed and implemented nationwide environmental compliance programs, including the preparation of regulatory analyses, ongoing regulatory monitoring, and routine counseling on regulatory issues.
Ms. Mehalko serves as Chair of the firm's Corporate & Securities and Polymer Practice Groups. Ms. Mehalko focuses her practice on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, domestic and cross border strategic alliances and joint ventures, general business counseling. She has extensive experience advising public companies on corporate governance issues and securities law issues. She represents private equity funds as well as portfolio companies of funds and has expertise in distressed/insolvent company transactions.
