Benesch is pleased to announce that Alan Schabes, a partner in the firm’s Healthcare Practice Group and member of the executive committee, has been appointed chair of the Fellows Coordinating Council of the American Health Law Association (AHLA). His term will begin July 1, 2026, and conclude June 30, 2028.
Alan’s appointment reflects his breadth of health law expertise and longstanding recognition within the industry. AHLA is the nation’s leading organization focused on education, collaboration and thought leadership in healthcare law. As chair of the Fellows Coordinating Council, Alan will play a key role in advancing AHLA’s mission to deliver authoritative health law content, foster a diverse professional community and support the association’s strategic initiatives.
Alan maintains a national healthcare law practice and advises a broad range of healthcare organizations, including private equity and venture capital firms, hospitals, post-acute care providers, behavioral health providers, physician and dental management service organizations, integrated delivery systems, and ancillary service providers.
His experience includes representing clients in acquisitions and dispositions of publicly and privately held healthcare providers, conducting internal and external investigations involving alleged fraud and abuse, litigating qui tam whistleblower cases, developing and administering healthcare compliance programs, and counseling on HIPAA and HITECH matters.
Alan has held various leadership roles within the healthcare legal community, including long-standing service to the American Health Care Association, where he serves on its Legal and Reimbursement Committees. He has received numerous accolades for his work, including being ranked by Chambers USA, named to The Best Lawyers in America and recognized as a Thomson Reuters Stand-Out Lawyer.
