Jonathan Todd, Vice Chair of Benesch’s Transportation & Logistics Practice Group, was quoted in The Business of Fashion in an article exploring the long history of smuggling and its modern-day resurgence as U.S. tariffs on apparel, accessories and luxury goods reach their highest levels since 1935.
The article highlights how wealthy travelers may attempt to skirt duties by bringing back high-value purchases from abroad. Jonathan noted that the current administration has made clear it intends to crack down: “This administration has made it loud and clear that they are interested in stopping customs evasion to the best of their ability, and pursuing those who are evading customs to the fullest extent of the law.”
