Chicago, IL – June 18, 2020 – Benesch is pleased to announce that partner Juan Morado Jr. has been nominated by the Chicago Bar Association to serve on the organization’s 2020/21 Board of Managers for a full two-year term.
Morado, a member of the Benesch Health Care & Life Sciences Practice Group, has already been serving on the board following a temporary one-year appointment by CBA President Jesse Ruiz. Morado’s new, full term officially begins today, June 18, 2020.
As a board member, Morado will be tasked with building stronger connections between the 22,000-member CBA and the diverse bar associations throughout Chicago and identifying ways that those bar associations can better support each other.
“I am honored and humbled to have been nominated by the distinguished members of the nominating committee for a full-term as a board manager following my temporary appointment by President Ruiz,” said Morado. “The CBA and its board of managers is steeped in history, and I am proud to become a part of that history and join such illustrious colleagues as Mayor Lightfoot. I look forward to working with my new board colleagues on making important policy decisions for the CBA as we move forward in these unique times.”
The CBA, which was founded in 1874, is one of the oldest and most active metropolitan bar associations in the United States. The Association's membership consists largely of lawyers and judges from Cook County and the state of Illinois. The Board of Managers consists of 16 members elected by the membership, and six officers including the president, first vice-president, second vice-president, secretary, treasurer and immediate past president.
The board also includes current Mayor of the City of Chicago Lori Lightfoot, as well as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Illinois, and two sitting judges from the Circuit Court of Cook County.
“I am delighted that the CBA and its board of managers will be keeping Juan on the team,” Ruiz said. “His drive to make a positive difference—within our profession and across the community—is tremendous, as is the depth of his legal skill and policy insight. Overall, Juan’s deep knowledge of health care policy and regulatory matters, along with his deep community ties made him a uniquely qualified candidate. In particular, Juan’s work with young Latinx attorneys displays a commitment to the future of our profession.”
Morado is a health care regulatory and policy attorney who advises hospitals, health systems, physician groups, consulting firms, pharmacies, and other clients, helping them to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and implement industry best practices. Additionally, he is one of the leading Certificate of Need (CON) attorneys in Illinois, successfully working with clients to establish new hospitals, surgery centers, nursing homes, and obtain regulatory approval for complex multimillion-dollar facility changes of ownership.
“The CBA is delighted to have Juan serve on its Board,” said Judge Thomas Mulroy, the past CBA president who led the nomination committee for this year’s Board candidates.
Morado has extensive experience working with the state and federal agencies and has previously served as General Counsel to the Health Facilities and Services Review Board of the State of Illinois. He was also appointed by then Mayor-elect Lightfoot to the Transition Team on Health & Human Services. Morado is also active in the community as a mentor and is the immediate past president of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois.
