Supply Chain Dive Quotes Jonathan Todd on Trump’s Reciprocal Tariff Policy

Media Mentions

Benesch Transportation & Logistics Vice-Chair Jonathan Todd was quoted in Supply Chain Dive regarding President Trump’s newly signed executive order implementing a reciprocal tariff policy.

The policy mandates that the U.S. will impose equivalent tariffs on any country that levies tariffs or other market restrictions on U.S. goods. This approach replaces the idea of a blanket global tariff, instead allowing for a case-by-case review of trade relationships.

In the article, Jonathan notes that this move signals a departure from a standardized tariff structure:

“And the messaging out of the White House today is that this will be the approach that is taken in lieu of an across the board, global tariff on goods coming to the U.S.,” Jonathan said.

The order follows a series of tariff-related measures since President Trump’s return to office, including new duties on steel and aluminum and targeted tariffs on trade partners such as China, Canada and Mexico. Industries reliant on imports—particularly automotive and manufacturing—are closely watching the potential impact.
