Marisa Darden, chair of Benesch’s White Collar, Government Investigations & Regulatory Practice Group, was recently quoted in a Law360 article examining the U.S. Department of Justice’s efforts to enhance its approach to combating government fraud and the resulting impact on businesses and legal counsel.

The article explores how increased enforcement activity is driving demand for internal investigations and regulatory guidance as organizations face heightened scrutiny surrounding fiduciary responsibilities, alleged misconduct and fraud-related concerns.

“We have a ton of internal investigations and that’s been keeping us pretty busy,” said Marisa Darden, a former state and federal prosecutor. “A lot of large businesses have questions about fiduciary responsibilities and allegations of misuse or fraud, self-dealing, that kind of stuff. The first two quarters were really slow, I think for everybody, but now it’s picked up.”
