Benesch Client Smartmatic Reaches Settlement With Newsmax

September 27, 2024

Benesch is pleased to announce that its client, technology company Smartmatic, has reached an undisclosed settlement in its high-profile defamation suit against Newsmax over the media company’s false claims that Smartmatic’s voting machines were part of a conspiracy to rig the election.

“We are very pleased to have secured the completion of the case against Newsmax,” said Smartmatic Attorney Erik Connolly, Chair of Benesch’s Litigation Practice Group. “We are now looking forward to our court day against Fox Corp and Fox News for their disinformation campaign. Lying to the American people has consequences. Smartmatic will not stop until the perpetrators are held accountable.”

Smartmatic’s related suits against Fox News and Fox Corp are set to go to trial next year.
