Benesch Continues Expanding Private Equity Practice, Adding Noted M&A Dealmaker Douglas DiMedio in New York
January 23, 2024
Benesch, one of the fastest-growing firms on the AmLaw 200 list, welcomes partner Douglas DiMedio to its New York office. Joining a growing trend of Big Law attorneys who have made the jump to Benesch, Doug focuses his practice on Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity transactions. Doug will co-lead the firm’s Private Equity Group.
Holding an MBA and with experience as an executive and entrepreneur, Doug advises clients on a range of corporate transactional matters, including acquisitions, divestitures, minority and growth equity investments, corporate restructurings and general corporate governance. His clients include large and middle-market private equity funds and their portfolio companies, as well as private and publicly traded corporations, all of which cover a wide range of industries.
Representing private equity firms has long been one of Benesch’s core competencies. With attorneys across the country regularly serving many of the world’s leading middle-market funds, the firm is active in the acquisition, financing, operation and ultimate disposition of various assets across a range of industries.
“Doug has a very sophisticated legal perspective shaped by serving a broad range of middle market and large cap private equity funds throughout his legal career, which he combines with his own practical, hands-on experience in business,” said Benesch Managing Partner Gregg Eisenberg. “His approach to his work is a great fit for our growth-minded clients and for our creative, entrepreneurial firm culture.”
Before making the move to Benesch, Doug was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis, where he had practiced since graduating from law school. Prior to attending law school, he established and subsequently managed the manufacturing division of a building material supply company, then founded his own business in the building materials industry. Doug also obtained a master’s degree in business administration.
“I am incredibly excited to bring my practice to Benesch, recognizing all of the benefits that the firm’s platform can provide to my clients. Benesch has an excellent foundation in the private equity M&A space, prioritizing the client experience while getting deals done in an effective and efficient manner, which perfectly aligns with my own approach,” said Doug. “The practice continues to grow at a remarkable pace, and I am eager to utilize my prior experience to build on that foundation and help lead and shape the next stage of its expansion.”
Benesch’s growth in New York reflects the firm’s national expansion in key markets, including a whopping 190% increase over the past five years in Chicago alone. Focused on attracting and retaining proven attorneys with its collaborative, full-service, national platform and substantive opportunities to help mentor the next generation of lawyers, in 2023, Benesch retained approximately 90% of its attorneys.
Since launching a national growth strategy in 2015, Benesch has consistently ranked as one of the nation’s fastest-growing law firms. In 2023, the firm added 83 lateral hires nationwide.
