Benesch Partner Marisa Darden Interviewed by 21 WFMJ on Arrest of 49ers Owner Jed York

Marisa Darden, lead of Benesch’s White Collar, Government Investigations & Regulatory Compliance Practice Group, appeared on 21 WFMJ (NBC Youngstown) to discuss the arrest of San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York and the potential legal, professional and personal implications stemming from the case.

During the interview, Marisa explained the significance of York’s no contest plea and the resulting criminal record, noting that the practical consequences are generally the same as a guilty plea.

“While he pled no contest, the resulting consequences are effectively the same as if he had pled guilty,” Marisa said. “He will have misdemeanor convictions on his criminal record, including disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools.”

She also discussed how prostitution sting operations are investigated and noted that the quick resolution of the case may have been aided by York’s prompt retention of legal counsel.

The segment also explored the potential fallout York could face under NFL policies and as CEO of the 49ers organization.
