Benesch Welcomes Of Counsel Daniel Utrata to Healthcare Practice Group
October 6, 2025
Benesch is pleased to announce that Daniel Utrata has joined the firm’s Healthcare Practice Group as of counsel in its Cleveland office. A seasoned transactional attorney, Daniel represents healthcare industry investors, facility owners and operators in mergers, acquisitions and other business transactions, structuring deals to achieve business goals while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulatory requirements.
“We’re excited to welcome Dan to the team,” said Healthcare Practice Group Chair Frank Carsonie. “He understands the business and regulatory pressures facing healthcare providers and investors, and he knows how to structure deals that address both. That balanced perspective will be a real asset to our clients.”
“Several of my colleagues have worked at Benesch and spoken highly of the firm,” said Dan. “After speaking with the leaders of the Healthcare Practice Group, I was very impressed with how collegial they were and their genuine commitment to supporting my professional growth. That set Benesch apart, and I’m looking forward to building my practice here.”
In his practice, Dan guides clients through the purchase, lease, sale, financing and refinancing of skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. He combines healthcare industry knowledge with corporate, real estate and finance experience to craft deal terms that balance risk, liability and operational needs, ensuring clients can grow, sell or restructure their healthcare businesses while avoiding compliance pitfalls and financial risk. He advises on financing options, structures leases to align with healthcare regulations and steers clients through title, zoning and financing challenges tied to facility operations.
In addition to his healthcare-focused work, Dan has extensive experience handling leasing projects for renewable energy developments, as well as private equity investments in telecommunications infrastructure.
Prior to joining Benesch, Dan served as of counsel at Ice Miller. He earned his J.D. from Cleveland State University College of Law, his M.A. in international relations and his B.A. in political science and German from Ohio University. Dan is fluent in both English and German.
