Benesch White Collar Chair Marisa Darden Analyzes Sherrone Moore Case on LiveNOW from FOX
December 15, 2025
Benesch White Collar, Government Investigations & Regulatory Compliance Chair Marisa Darden gave a live TV interview on LiveNOW from FOX analyzing the criminal charges facing fired University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore.
During the segment, Marisa, who is a former state and federal prosecutor, discussed key legal and procedural questions raised by the case, including whether the charges may be disproportionate for a first-time offender, how charging decisions compare to similar intimate-partner violence cases in Washtenaw County, and whether the high-profile nature of college football could influence prosecutorial discretion.
“There’s a real question here about whether the prosecutors overcharged this, given all of the eyes that are on this case and on all of the investigations and things that are surrounding Michigan. Considering that Sherrone Moore is a first-time offender with no criminal history, we’ll see whether the felony actually sticks.”
Marisa also addressed broader issues surrounding the university’s response, including questions about internal investigations, decision-making timelines, potential civil exposure and how mental health considerations may factor into institutional handling of the situation. The interview explored how media scrutiny, recruiting pressures and the overall stakes of a major Division I football program can complicate both legal and crisis-management decisions.
