Jonathan Todd Quoted in Law360 on Increased Tariff Enforcement Risks for Importers

August 20, 2026

Jonathan Todd, Partner and Co-Lead of Benesch’s Transportation & Logistics Practice Group, was quoted in a recent Law360 article examining the growing compliance and enforcement challenges facing importers as the U.S. intensifies tariff enforcement efforts.

In the article, “New Risks for Importers as US Steps Up Tariff Enforcement,” Todd discussed the evolving customs and trade enforcement landscape under the Trump administration, noting that companies are facing heightened scrutiny and a rapidly changing regulatory environment.

“We’re seeing all levers of the enforcement side of the federal government being pulled on this issue of trade fraud,” Todd said. “There are two aspects that are new: One is the speed of change and the challenge of awareness, and the second is the aggressiveness of enforcement.”

Todd’s comments highlight the increasing importance of proactive compliance strategies as businesses navigate shifting trade policies, enhanced enforcement activity, and the growing risks associated with customs and tariff compliance.
