Juan Andrés supports his clients by focusing on their business goals and project outcomes by stepping in wherever friction arises, whether in trial, arbitration or proactive counseling, and leveraging Benesch’s interdisciplinary team to deliver timely and effective resolutions. Beyond dispute resolution, he collaborates with client to design clear, practical risk management strategies that align legal protection with business objectives.
Juan represents and advises clients primarily in two interrelated areas: commercial litigation and construction industry matters. He assists with navigating disputes, drafting strategic pleadings and motions, managing e-discovery teams, and representing clients in both judicial and arbitral forums.
As part of the commercial litigation team, Juan represents Smartmatic in high-profile defamation lawsuits, including a $2.7 billion lawsuit, related to statements made by news networks following the 2020 U.S. Presidential election. He is also experienced in high-stakes financial markets and services litigation, enforcement actions, regulatory compliance and managing government demands.
In the construction sector, Juan advises contractors, owners, and special purpose entities across a range of domestic and international projects, including emergent and pre-emptive bidding and procurement, delay and disruption, and lien disputes. He also delivers ongoing project-risk counseling during active projects to identify risks early on and to help prevent future conflicts. With his dual focus on litigation preparation and project-market awareness, Juan anticipates, manages, and works to successfully resolve his clients’ legal issues to help keep their businesses on track, protect their rights and assets, and preserve their valuable business relationships.
Juan’s role on Benesch’s AI commission in the litigation arm allows him to evaluate emerging technology trends that affect litigation strategy, data management, and project-delivery risk. He combines that forward-looking perspective with hands-on experience drafting and defending motions, managing and streamlining discovery and seeing a matter through to resolution, meaning clients get both a proactive mindset and practical advocacy.
