Benesch welcomes partner Charanjit Brahma to its Litigation practice group and San Francisco office. The addition demonstrates Benesch’s continued commitment to growth on the West Coast and to expanding its capabilities to better serve technology and life sciences clients.
Brahma is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer whose twenty-year career has focused on patent litigation and other intellectual property matters. His trial experience helps him work with clients to craft efficient litigation strategies that meet their business objectives. He also leverages his trial experience to represent clients in PTAB proceedings, advise on IP portfolio development, provide pre-litigation and freedom-to-operate opinions, prosecute high-value patents relating to a variety of technologies, and review key assets in transactional due diligence. He has worked with a range of clients in the pharmaceutical, software, communications network, medical device, mechanical and biotechnology industries. In 2020, Brahma earned a spot on the prestigious Best Lawyers® Litigation – Intellectual Property list.
“Charan is a strong addition to our team. He is a seasoned and versatile litigator and adapts his core strategy to fit his clients’ business needs and objectives,” said Gregg Eisenberg, Managing Partner and Executive Committee Member. “Not only that, Charan’s ability to winnow cases to key strategic issues and evidence is extraordinary. This talent gives his technology clients an advantage in defending against non-practicing entity litigation. Charan’s deep technical knowledge allows him to delve into obscure points with experts while still simplifying complex issues for a lay audience.”
Brahma is an active advocate for the South Asian community and currently serves as President of the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the UC Hastings Foundation and previously served as an adjunct professor of intellectual property at the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America.
“I am looking forward to working with the team at Benesch, and especially my IP litigation partners, Kal Shah, who I’ve known for years, and Manish Mehta” said Brahma. “The firm is laser-focused on providing clients the highest quality service in innovative and efficient ways that help them reach their business objectives. The firm’s rapid growth is a testament to its clients’ faith in the abilities of the Benesch team.”
Brahma graduated from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, as well as a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
He joins a deep bench within the firm’s Litigation practice. The team understands the nuanced world of intellectual property litigation and successfully represents clients across the country in patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret matters.
The firm overall has also earned recognition. Nationally, since making its debut on the AmLaw 200 list in 2016, Benesch has advanced 27 places and is currently ranked at number 168.
