Benesch Corporate Partner Aslam Rawoof was recently quoted in a Law360 article examining how private equity firms are increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence to refine investment strategies and navigate a highly competitive deal environment.
The article highlights findings from a new BDO survey showing that nearly all private equity firms expect AI to significantly influence their investment approaches within the next 18 months. Fund managers reported using AI throughout the deal cycle, including deal sourcing, due diligence, portfolio monitoring, and exit planning.
Discussing current investment trends, Rawoof noted that private equity firms are particularly interested in businesses supporting AI infrastructure.
“What we’re seeing a lot of is anything related to data centers or energy assets tied to AI,” said Rawoof. “But one distinction would be the dozens new startups saying every day that they’re using AI to solve this or that problem. I haven’t seen evidence that private equity is trying to move into that space, because that is very speculative.”
Rawoof also addressed the state of the IPO market and the opportunities AI-driven disruption may create for investors, observing that industries experiencing varying levels of AI adoption could generate significant opportunities for private equity firms in the years ahead.
