February 26, 2026
Benesch is pleased to announce that Laura Sugarman, a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group, has been selected as a 2026 Notable Women in Law by Crain’s New York Business. Widely regarded as one of New York’s go-to resources for complex real estate development matters, this recognition reflects Laura’s notable accomplishments, leadership and meaningful contributions to the New York legal and business communities.
The annual list honors influential women attorneys across New York who demonstrate legal excellence, mentor and support other women in the profession, advance inclusive workplace practices and make a positive impact on their communities. Honorees are selected through a competitive peer nomination and editorial review process.
“Laura is incredibly deserving of this honor, and we are proud to see her recognized,” said Chief Strategy Partner and Real Estate Chair Jeff Wild. “She is not only an outstanding practitioner, but also deeply committed to her work and the broader community. Laura leads by example and consistently seeks opportunities to support and uplift others.”
In her practice, Laura structures and closes deals for transformative projects in New York and across the country. She represents national and local developers, owners, lenders, landlords, tenants, borrowers, investors and not-for-profit entities in acquisitions and dispositions, financings, leasing, air rights and large-scale development projects, including affordable housing and condominium developments. She is a skilled tax strategist, steering through real estate law and complex tax codes and using various legal and financial structures to help her clients secure essential tax exemptions.
Laura serves on the Real Estate Advisory Board of Yeshiva University, is a longtime participant in Cardozo Law School’s Women in Law Institute and is actively engaged in Benesch’s Women’s Initiative Network. She also serves as co-chair of the firm’s Hiring Committee, helping to shape the next generation of legal talent.
