Marisa T. Darden, Chair of Benesch’s White Collar, Government Investigations & Regulatory Compliance Practice Group, was featured in Law360 for her successful representation of professional basketball player Romeo Travis in U.S. v. Romeo V. Travis.
Despite facing charges of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, Travis avoided prison time, instead receiving a sentence of three years of probation and an order to pay $424,000 in restitution. The case centered on allegations that Travis and his sports agent underreported income from 2013 to 2019 by altering salary figures on contracts and omitting tax returns.
