Benesch’s Scott Humphrey and Katie Burnett Among Top 10 Most Active Trade Secret Litigation Lawyers in the Country
September 30, 2024
Benesch is pleased to announce that Partner Scott Humphrey and Senior Managing Associate Katie Burnett have been identified as two of the top 10 most active trade secret litigation lawyers in the country, per Lex Machina’s 2024 Trade Secret Litigation Report.
The report analyzes trade secret litigation trends in federal district and appellate courts from 2021 to 2023, covering case filings, venues, judges, law firms, attorneys, parties, timing metrics, case resolutions, findings and damages. It includes detailed analytics on general trade secret cases, DTSA cases and federal appellate trade secret cases.
“There is a reason clients trust our attorneys to handle these sensitive cases, and we congratulate Scott and Katie on this high-profile national recognition,” said Managing Partner Gregg Eisenberg.
This recognition follows Benesch’s Trade Secrets, Restrictive Covenants & Unfair Competition Practice Group being named a ‘Trade Secret Powerhouse’ by IAM 1000, making Benesch one of only 14 firms to earn this prestigious title. Additionally, Thomson Reuters noted that Benesch attorneys have handled more trade secret cases in the past decade than 95% of midsize firms on the 2023 AmLaw 200 list. Furthermore, Scott has litigated more trade secret cases than any other attorney at a midsize firm in the last ten years.
As Partner and Chair of the Trade Secrets, Restrictive Covenants, and Unfair Competition Practice Group, Scott Humphrey focuses on complex commercial disputes, including trade secret misappropriation, contract breaches and business torts. He serves as lead counsel for clients across various industries, handling litigation, arbitration and injunctions nationwide. Recognized by Benchmark Litigation, IAM Patent 1000 and The Legal 500, Scott frequently speaks on trade secret law and advises on the Defend Trade Secrets Act and evolving restrictive covenant laws.
Katie Burnett is a Senior Managing Associate in the Litigation Practice Group, representing clients in industries such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, insurance and financial services. She manages multi-jurisdictional litigation and handles complex business disputes, including contract, business tort and employment claims. Katie is experienced in trade secret and intellectual property litigation, as well as defending clients in regulatory investigations by agencies like the DEA and FDA. She also represents clients in bankruptcy litigation, including Chapter 11 matters.
