Rachel Hold-Weiss Quoted in McKnight’s Home Care News on Expanding PPEO Oversight
July 29, 2025
Rachel Hold-Weiss, partner in Benesch’s Healthcare+ Practice Group, was quoted in McKnight’s Home Care News following her remarks at the 2025 National Alliance for Care at Home Financial Summit in Chicago. The article discusses increasing regulatory scrutiny of hospice providers by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), with Georgia potentially the next state to be placed under the Provisional Period of Enhanced Oversight (PPEO).
“If you’re not under an audit yet, the chances of you coming under one or more audits from one or more entities is very, very high,” said Rachel.
She advised providers to proactively prepare by understanding who is conducting the audit and what the audit is targeting, whether it be quality of care, fraud or overpayments. “Knowing those two things will help hospices understand the nature of their audit and be able to respond effectively,” she said.
Rachel also underscored the importance of seeking qualified legal counsel with experience in home health and hospice.
