Thomas focuses his intellectual property practice on trademark, entertainment, litigation and e-commerce issues. He advises and counsels entrepreneurs and businesses from a variety of industries at each stage of their life cycle, including business formation, capital raising, intellectual property protection, licensing, regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions, risk management and litigation, supply chain, and day-to-day business issues.
As a member of the firm’s Transportation & Logistics Group, Thomas also devotes a significant portion of his practice to representing international and domestic carriers, freight forwarders, transportation brokers, warehousemen and commercial shippers, in a wide variety of matters.
Thomas handles a diverse range of matters for not-for-profit entities, helping them meet their desired goals and achieve their respective missions.
Cannabis Industry
Tom focuses his practice on regulatory matters, corporate transactions, and intellectual property in the ever changing legal cannabis industry.
Tom’s regulatory experience spans across the U.S. and foreign jurisdictions where cannabis is legal. He advises clients on state, local, and federal regulatory frameworks. In addition, Tom represents numerous companies on licensure, successfully obtaining licenses, and assisting his clients with post-licensure compliance and business strategies to successfully bring these companies to market.
Tom has handled several cannabis-related transactions across the U.S. and in foreign jurisdictions, including mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.
Tom has a wealth of intellectual property experience that has given him the ability to borrow techniques from more developed industries and implement them into cannabis intellectual property strategies. He handles trademark issues, technology and brand licensing, as well as strategic advice on how to best protect and monetize intellectual property.

Successfully represented five charitable beneficiaries in terminating a Trust because the costs to keep the Trust outweighed the income it produced. The Court ruled in favor of the five charitable beneficiaries and granted our clients the entire amount.
Represented Cresco Labs, one of the largest vertically integrated multistate cannabis operators in the United States, in obtaining a provisional processing license by the state of Ohio. The License allows Cresco to extract oils and manufacture products from cannabis which provides Cresco the ability to sell its entire House of Brands in Ohio. Benesch represented Cresco throughout the licensing process and assisted Cresco in becoming a vertically integrated operator in the State of Ohio.
