New Offices in the Heart of Midtown Position Fast-Growing Firm for Additional Lawyer Moves
Benesch, one of the fastest-growing AmLaw 200 law firms, has expanded its footprint in New York City’s Midtown Business District at 1155 Avenue of the Americas, effective today
“We have growing relationships with private equity, real estate and litigation clients that compel us to have a larger presence in New York City,” said Benesch Firmwide Managing Partner Gregg A. Eisenberg. “Staying true to our firmwide strategy of building strength on strength in our core practice areas, we see growth in New York as a prime opportunity to better serve our existing clients, to add depth to our bench in a market with a deep talent pool, and to forge new client and community relationships in the city and the metro area broadly.”
Since just the beginning of 2023, Benesch has added 27 lateral lawyers from some of the nation’s largest law firms – partners like Aslam Rawoof [New York] and Kevin Humphries [Columbus] from Kirkland and Stephanie Sheridan [San Francisco], Michael Vatis [New York] and Meegan Brooks [San Francisco] from Steptoe.
“While we have a core team in our New York office, one of the greatest draws to Benesch is the firm’s national roster of talent and resources,” noted Rawoof, who joined Benesch as a partner in New York earlier this year. “The firm is committed to having critical and credible mass in its key markets, including New York, as this lease confirms. Yet the real beauty of Benesch is that, even as we grow, we take an entrepreneurial approach to the law and its application to our client matters. This is fostered by close collaboration across legal disciplines, whether with colleagues down the hall or on the other side of the country.”
“I’m at Benesch because of the tremendous opportunity to help build out both our New York office and a leading Data Privacy & Cybersecurity practice,” said Vatis, who joined the firm as a partner in New York in April. “The opportunity to focus on emerging privacy and data security issues central to our clients’ businesses and to work with my colleagues across the U.S. to understand and strategize around those businesses issues is what makes Benesch such a great platform at this point in my career.”
With space to accommodate expansion, Benesch’s New York office aims to build on the momentum of the firm’s rapid growth across markets, including a whopping 211% increase over the past five years in Chicago alone. Focused on attracting and retaining proven attorneys with its collaborative, full service, national platform and substantive opportunities to help mentor the next generation of lawyers, in 2022, Benesch retained 98% of its equity partners, 89% of salaried partners, and 92% of its Associates/Of Counsel.
