Commercial Mortgage Alert Highlights Benesch’s Addition of 20-Attorney Reed Smith Team and Miami Expansion

Benesch was featured in Commercial Mortgage Alert regarding the arrival of a 20-attorney real estate and structured finance team from Reed Smith, led by Partner Jodi Schwimmer. The addition significantly expands Benesch’s real estate capabilities and establishes a new structured finance and securitization practice at the firm.

In the article, Schwimmer explained her decision to join Benesch, noting that she was seeking “a platform that felt more entrepreneurial and relationship-driven” and was drawn to the firm’s growing real estate practice and complementary service offerings. She added that “the fit between their team and existing capabilities and my structured-finance practice made a lot of sense for both me and my clients.”

Schwimmer also highlighted the market opportunity that made the move particularly timely, stating that “the continued demand across both the borrowing and securitization markets” makes it “an exciting time to expand our capabilities.”

The incoming group includes Jodi Schwimmer and fellow partners Randy Eckers, Michael Estreicher, Alexander “A.J.” Sokoloff and Amanda Rapp, along with additional attorneys and staff. Their arrival strengthens Benesch’s representation of lenders, borrowers, fund operators and REITs while adding sophisticated capital markets and structured finance capabilities.

The article also noted that Benesch plans to open a Miami office as part of the expansion, with Schwimmer and a portion of the team based there, further extending the firm’s national footprint.
