Two Benesch Partners Receive Top Recognition in Cleveland

Benesch is pleased to announce that Ira C. Kaplan has been named Mergers and Acquisitions Law Lawyer of the Year and Alan E. Schabes has been named Health Care Law Lawyer of the Year for 2015 by Best Lawyers, a well-respected peer-review publication in the legal industry. “Lawyer of the Year” awards are presented annually to a single outstanding lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area.

Best Lawyers designates “Lawyer(s) of the Year” in high-profile legal specialties in large legal communities. Only a single lawyer in each specialty in each community is being honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.” This is the second year Mr. Kaplan has received this recognition (2010).

Mr. Kaplan is the firm’s Managing Partner and serves as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Mr. Kaplan has Co-Chaired the firm’s Corporate & Securities Group and Private Equity Group. He focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions as well as public and private debt and equity financings. Mr. Kaplan represents both publicly and privately held companies at various stages of growth. He has been involved in planning for growth companies, helping to position them for growth and liquidity. Mr. Kaplan also represents private equity, subordinated debt and venture funds as well as portfolio companies of such funds.

Mr. Schabes focuses his practice on health care law, including the representation of long-term care and residential care facilities; health care private equity and venture capital investment firms; physician groups; integrated delivery systems; ancillary service providers including institutional pharmacy companies, health maintenance organizations, and preferred provider organizations; Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement matters; fraud and abuse; asset and stock acquisitions; and joint venture formation.
