Supply Chain Dive Quotes Jonathan Todd on USMCA Compliance
March 19, 2025
Jonathan Todd, Vice Chair of Benesch’s Transportation & Logistics Practice Group, was quoted in Supply Chain Dive on how businesses are reassessing their duty exemption strategies under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) following a temporary pause on 25% tariffs.
The article explains that with the pause in effect until April 2, companies are reviewing their product mixes and supply chains to determine whether they qualify for USMCA benefits. Businesses that previously found compliance cost-prohibitive may now see greater potential savings.
“If they have not, now is the time to sharpen pencils and complete the USMCA analysis to see whether USMCA origin and duty free status is available,” said Todd. He noted that for many companies, this process involves a detailed review of tariff classifications and regional value content requirements.
